It's been a busy spring and summer at DHN Attorneys. Our team spent the season out in the community, meeting with association boards, sitting down with clients across Central Florida, and showing up at the events that matter to the neighborhoods we serve. From board meetings to chamber gatherings to sponsoring local causes, we kept our focus on the relationships that make this work worthwhile. Thanks for being part of the DHN community!

This month, Don Nguyen and Ryan Fong hosted "Total Recall: Florida Board Recalls, Memory Gaps, and Procedural Survival," a 2 credit hour continuing education course for Community Association Managers on navigating board recall procedures under Chapters 718 and 720.

No Martian colonies here, just the real deal: voting thresholds, the 60-day election restriction, and the procedural missteps that turn a routine recall into a total disaster. We covered what it takes to get it right, and what happens when a board's memory of the rules doesn't quite match reality.

Brooke spent the last two years with our firm as a legal assistant, learning the ins and outs of community association and real estate law. That experience shows in how she works with clients today. Now, as Associate Attorney, she brings that same attention to detail and work ethic to the counsel she provides.

A young woman inherits her father's house in a 55-and-over community, but the association tells her she can't live there. The board then approves a $155,000 special assessment to fund the legal fight. Commenters and readers all around the country have already decided that the association is the villain. But, we think the story is more complicated than that.

In our latest blog post, we break down why associations exist in the first place, why "just make an exception" is rarely as simple as it sounds, and whether litigation was actually the right business decision here.

Conversations like these are what keep us connected to the community we serve, and we're always glad to be part of it.

Don Nguyen is honored to serve on the host committee for Roberta Walton Johnson's campaign for Orange County Clerk of Courts and recently spoke at the campaign's kickoff event in September.

Don was part of the 2026 City of Titusville Community Conference as a guest panelist, speaking on the intersection of HOA and condominium restrictions and local municipal ordinances. The session focused on a topic many communities struggle with: how associations and cities can navigate overlapping rules while still working toward the same goal of safe, thriving neighborhoods. 🏘️🏛️

Our Firm has had the honor of representing Orange County Clerk Tiffany Moore Russell, and we're proud of the relationship we've built together over the years. We look forward to seeing where her leadership takes her in the future, and we're grateful to have been part of the journey so far.
