Board Certification Courses Available August 15

August 2, 2024

Recent legislative changes in Florida, specifically House Bill 1021 and House Bill 1203, have introduced new educational requirements for Board Members, effective July 1, 2024. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) has developed a 4-hour Board Member Certification Program designed to help Board Members understand their responsibilities under the new statutory requirements. This course will be available free of charge on the DBPR's website starting August 15, 2024. Mark your calendar for this important date.

Below are the key details you need to be aware of:

For Condominium Association Board Members:

  • Directors appointed or elected before July 1, 2024, must meet the new educational requirements by June 30, 2025.
  • Directors appointed or elected on or after July 1, 2024, are required to complete the 4-hour educational curriculum within 90 days of their election or appointment.

For HOA Board Members:

  • Directors elected or appointed before July 1, 2024, must complete the educational curriculum within four years, provided they serve on the board without interruption during this period.
  • Directors appointed or elected on or after July 1, 2024, must fulfill the educational requirements within 90 days of their election or appointment.

We have confirmed that, for now, only the DBPR will be authorized to teach Board classes, including certification courses (even for HOAs only). This will remain unchanged until the DBPR provides additional information this fall regarding authorized providers. The 4-hour DBPR class, available starting August 15th, is the sole authorized course for Board Certification and continuing education per statutory requirements.
